Responsible Sourcing & Provenance
Our practice rests on three commitments: we know where a stone came from, we say exactly what has been done to it, and we put both in writing.
Where our stones come from
We buy through a small number of relationships built over nineteen years — miners, cutters, and collectors. We take exceptional care to ensure every gem is purchased responsibly and buy close to the source to verify the chain of custody, ensure first access to the finest rough on earth, obtain optimal pricing, and most importantly to directly support the community and miners at the gem's place of origin whenever possible.
What we disclose
Treatment is stated the way the laboratory states it, including "no indication of heating" where that is what the report says, and is repeated on our invoice. Origin is described as laboratory-determined or seller-represented, never blurred between the two. We do not sell laboratory-grown stones as natural, simulants as anything other than simulants. If we are uncertain about anything, we say we are uncertain.
Our metals
Gold and platinum used in the workshop are sourced from refiners certified by the Responsible Jewellery Council and recycled whenever possible. Client metal from inherited pieces is reused when you wish and refined when it is not.
People
We are a small workshop and we make almost everything in house.
What we will not do
We will not grade our own stones, inflate a report, or describe a stone's investment prospects as anything more certain than they are. Market commentary on this site is opinion, written to help you think, and is not advice.
